FM ATHLETICS YOUTH FOOTBALL WITH GATORADE PLAY IT FORWARD $1,000 GRANT

Gatorade Play It Forward empowers all 608 State Gatorade Player of the Year recipients to award a $1,000 grant from Gatorade to a community organization that helps the next generation of athletes reap the benefits of sport.

BACKGROUND: Fargo Moorhead Athletics Youth Football has over 1,500 participants playing on 68 different teams making it the premier youth football league in the area. Shanley quarterback Michael Rostberg learned to play football in the FM Athletics starting in the 4th grade. This last football season, Michael set North Dakota’s single-season passing records in North Dakota’s highest division. He set records by throwing 2,969 passing yards, 238 completions and 34 passing TDs. He also broke ND career passing records in the highest division by throwing 4,636 yards and averaged a record of 232 yds per game in just two years as a starter. Rostberg earned the Gatorade ND Football Player of the Year after leading the Deacons to their first state championship at the highest division in 38 years.
As one of the most prestigious high school sports awards in the nation, the Gatorade Player of the Year program celebrates young athletes on their journey to greatness. The Gatorade Player of the Year award recognizes athletes not just for their excellence on the playing surface, but for their commitment in the classroom and impact in their community. For nearly 40 years, Gatorade has honored high school athletes at the top of their game as teammates, building an all-star roster of alumni that have reached the heights of greatness or are well on their way. Previous winners include Peyton Manning, Carson Wentz, and former Shanley Grad Connor McGovern.
Being a Gatorade Player of the Year means paying if forward for the next generation. Through Gatorade’s cause marketing platform Play It Forward, all 608 Gatorade Player of the Year award winners are empowered to choose a local or national youth sports organization that will receive a $1,000 grant from Gatorade.
